Windemere residents that wish to vote by absentee ballot for the Annual March Township Election can do so by first completing an absentee ballot application. Notice is hereby given that the Windemere Town Board will receive sealed quotes for the hauling and spreading of 3,000 yards more or less of class 5 gravel from the township pit using a minimum of 2 belly dump trucks.

Quotes are to be in a sealed envelope marked “Gravel Quote” and will be opened at 7:00 p.m. on August 3, 2017 at the Windemere Town Hall. Job is to be completed by October 1, 2017.

A certificate of Workmen’s Comp Insurance and Liability must accompany the quote. Windemere Township reserves the right to reject any or all quotes.

Notice: May 4, 2017 Ice Heave Damage on Sturgeon Lake


Windemere Township Zoning Office is issuing a temporary exemption to the Zoning Ordinance for Grading and Filling permit requirements with limitations. This exemption ends 10/1/2017

Conditions of Exemption:

Property owners on Sturgeon Lake with ice heave damage to their shoreline may

  • Restore shoreline to natural conditions present prior to winter 16/17
  • Move existing fill/material within shoreland, but must avoid placing fill in wetland areas
  • Add/remove up to 10 yards of fill/material from shoreland, avoiding wetland impact

Windemere Township Zoning jurisdiction ends at “Ordinary High Water Level (OHWL).” Contact MN Dept. of Natural Resources Area Hydrologist, Heidi Lindgren (218) 203-4368, for questions regarding work below OHWL.

The Zoning Administrator must be given at least seven (7) days prior notice before work is commenced.

Erosion control practices must be followed when working in shoreland areas.
-Slope must not exceed 3:1
-Any exposed soil must be protected with new seed and mulch
-Silt fences must be used where applicable
-Consider using native vegetation when restoring lakeshore habitat
-Not more than 200 feet of shoreland may be affected.

All other local zoning ordinances and state requirements must not be violated.

The Windemere Town Board will receive quotes for the crushing and stockpiling of 10,000 yards more or less of class 5 at the township pit.  Gravel must be 8 to 10% modified class 5.  Crushing is to be completed by June 30, 2017.   Bids will be opened at 6:45 p.m. on March 2, 2017. The project must be bid by the yard.   Certificate of Workmen’s Compensation Insurance and Liability must accompany the quote.  The board reserves the right to reject any or all quotes.

Portable Storage Containers

Portable Storage Container means a unit that is constructed to make it portable and capable of movement from one site to another (commonly known as recycled shipping containers in industrialized/modular buildings used as tractor -trailers or in railroad shipping).  A portable storage container can be or is used for a storage of personal property of any kind, that is located outside of an enclosed building, that is larger than 425 sq. ft., and that is not a permanent accessory building or shed complying with all building codes and zoning requirement.  

A person must not cause, undertake, permit or allow the placement or existence of a portable storage container outside on a lot located in Zone Districts R-2, R-3 or S-1 unless it complies with the following requirements:

1.     A portable storage container must be placed in an area approved by the zoning administrator per set back requirements.

2.     A portable storage container may not be on any portion of a public street;

3.      A portable storage container may not remain on a parcel longer than 12 months.

4.     An extension, up to one year, may be granted upon the discretion of the zoning administrator.

5.     The total size of all portable storage containers simultaneously on a lot cannot exceed 600 square feet.

6.     These containers are not allowed to be stacked and can not exceed a height of 10ft.

7.     This provision shall become effective and enforceable on the day after publication, except for existing portable storage containers, which have one year to comply with the provision.

Windemere Township will hold its Annual Township Election on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the Windemere Town Hall.  Polls will be open from 1:00-8:00 p.m. for the purpose of electing one supervisor and one treasurer.  The Annual Meeting will commence at 8:30 p.m. following the election to discuss all township business pertinent to the Annual Township Meeting. 

In case of inclement weather, the meeting will be held on the third Tuesday of March.
